From the point of view of Industries Bihar may be regarded as being in a state of transition. Agriculture monopolises the energies of the majority of the people. However, organised industries and manufacturers of considerable importance have come into existence during the last few decades. A large labour force is employed in coal mines, iron and railway works, house-hold industries, construction, trade and commerce, transport, storage and communications; and labour is becoming more mobile, scores of thousands able-bodied men migrating every year to meet the demand on manufacturing centres. Machinery is being employed to an increasing extent; factories are springing up in towns; giant industrial complexes, such as the Heavy Engineering Corporation, Bokaro Steel, Sindri Fertilizers, Patratu Thermal Power Station and Barauni Industries Complexes, have been established in the Government sector. TISCO, TELCO, Usha Martin, and Modi Steels are in the Private Sectors. With the change in the Policy at the Centre many new projects are in the offings to be setup during the coming years, ushering an era of rapid industrialization.
