For some years he tested and rejected radical physical ascetisim and abstract philosophy. Finally, in a single night of intensive meditation he achieved Enlightment and evolved his own unique diagnosis and Teaching (Dharma). The prior day, he had replied Mara of Ten Paths towards evil.

If one was able to conquer these one would win bliss. When Siddharata became the Buddha, through Enlightenment, he attained Nirvana and was translated to the higher plane, while his body continued to exist, because of Karmic residues. And when he died, he became truly impalpable, without form or appearance.
